Creative Cloud update failed error code 183 - My Solution

Creative Cloud update failed error code 183

The web is scattered with Creative Cloud update failed error code 183, and some people find some relief others, like me, are plagued by the problem. I even had Adobe technicians remotely access my pc twice, and they could not solve the problem. This made me think. It might not be a complete Adobe problem. It might be, and the error code 183 suggests it, a permissions problem which is Windows related.
I am not going to make a long story about the solution, but the gist is the following procedure.

Uninstall all Adobe related products

First uninstall Adobe products, ALL of them. This includes
  • Adobe Creative Cloud and ALL its associated products (Photoshop, Lightroom etc.)
  • Uninstall Adobe reader
  • Uninstall Adobe Air

Run Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner tool

Run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. You can get the download link here.

Remove all Adobe related folders from your PC

Once you have uninstalled everything related to Adobe, delete ALL Adobe folders and sub-folders, including C:\Program Files\Adobe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe.
Locate the following folders under users/username/AppData.
  • Local
  • Localhost
  • Roaming
Remove all folders with the name Adobe.

You are not finished!!!

The final act: "Windows Credentials"

Type in the search bar at the bottom of your screen "Windows Credentials". Once the dialogue box is open, you will see Web Credentials and Windows Credentials. Click on Windows Credentials.
Further down the window under Generic Credentials, you will see a list of Adobe App Info (jLKhLKJBmbJBLKHlkhukkLKH...blah, blah, blah), there might be a lot of them. DELETE them all. I have about 30 on my PC. Also, delete Adobe User Info(Part1) and Adobe User Info(Part 2). That is if you have them. Anyway, remove all items with the word "Adobe".

You now have disinfected your PC from Adobe related products. Switch off your PC, have a beer, switch on again. Download and install all your app from the beginning.
The procure I described here is the only solution that works for me. I wrestled for three years, and currently, my copy is working and updating itself, touch wood.
